I happened to watch this movie for the first time last Sunday and boy does this ever describe how gut wrenching it is. But! Ryan North once described what made Back to the Future so great as “at the end of the story you get, like, five different climaxes one after another after another” and that applies really well here too… except instead of a dance number we get a riot, but still. I didn’t realize it at the time but it’s probably all that makes Strange Days bearable, which I mean in a good way. The Ghost in the Shell SAC episode that I assume was an homage to this is completely unbearable, which I do not mean in a good way.
