Derrick Rose’s acclaim fell off so fast because he was never as good as the hype to begin with. He was a decent score first point guard whose defensive foibles were covered up by an otherwise elite defensive squad. Were he still on a 2011 Bulls level defensive team he would have produced .131 WS/48 last year. Not great, but not that far from his .208 MVP season either.
