Is Paul George actually better than Love, though? He’s never been better than Third Team All-NBA, Love was Second Team twice in Minnesota and neither made it this year. Stats tell a similar story: Love above .21 WS/48 three years, George peaked at .18; Love above .26 WP/48 two years, George peaked at .21; dropping rookie years they each had +7 on/off in their pre-LeBron careers; George and Love are about as good shooting/passing as each other but Love can give you that at center where it’s much harder to find.
Certainly Love and George would both be underutilized as a third option, and I feel like as long as the Cavs are giving the Deron Williamses and Richard Jeffersons of the world rotation minutes they need to focus less on third tier star power and more on quality depth. If the Cavs could trade Love for Kawhi or somebody then that would be an entirely different matter, altogether.
