Yes, we will celebrate Durant. Context fades, only accomplishments remain. If he retires today he’ll be up there with Kobe Bryant, Moses Malone (another MVP team jumper MVP team joiner), Dirk Nowitzki, Wes Unseld, Willis Reed, Bob Pettit. Not the highest echelon, but far from the lowest.

This was also year ten for him, so he probably has one prime year left if that, and while staying on the Warriors gives him a great chance at more rings it gives him almost no chance of more MVPs or Finals MVPs considering Steph Curry will be in his prime much longer. With that in mind it’s unlikely his historical standing ever improves significantly.
